PostSubject: Intro to Herbalism   Wed Oct 08, 2008 9:06 pm

There are three forms of herb craft. The first is herbal magick sometimes known as green witchcraft, low magick, and kitchen witchery. The second is herbalism as the practice of using herbs and other vegetation for medicinal use. The third is creative art work which includes things like floral arrangements, pressing flowers etc.

The texts that I will write following this one will be in concerned to the magickal and medicinal uses and will contain detailed info on several herbs along with tradition apothecary prescription methods. Each of these subjects and each individual plant will be done as individual posts/subjects for ease of reference. The data on individual herbs will be placed in a subforum to help maintain organization.

Herbal magicks can be a complex form of magick and even its own stand alone system of magick like enochian magick, candle magick and kabalistic magick. What makes it such a complex system is the over abundant correspondences and assosiations given to each herb, flower and plant. These correspondences include : Elemental, Gods, Spheres of power, Days, Planets and Hours. Not all herbs will have every last one of these, however they will have the majority and only lacking one maybe two. Along with the correspondences, the other thing that makes it a complex system is even brewing a magick concoctions is as complex as ceremonial magick. You have to formulate the combinations of herbs properly so their energies do not contradict each other AND your spell.

Herbalism is complex due to individuals stats and the formulation of dosing based off the stats of an individual, then one has to take into consideration dosing formula based off the potency of the herb or herbs being used. After that one must write a formula for the method of dosing ex. salve, tea, ingestion, ointment, tonic etc. Then the last thing that must be taken into consideration is the part of the plant or substance that would be most useful for the patient, treatment, and ailment.
